Hello there—
Thank you for coming to my website! I am a writer and performer. You might have seen me on TV shows like Nashville or Turn, or on stage as Hamlet or the Narrator in Every Brilliant Thing.
The main focus of my work is solo theatre. My original, auto-biographical solo plays center around major events in my life. Getting divorced, coming out to my father as a Democrat. My newest show, Stages, is about my life as a cancer survivor. Click here for more information.
I also keep a blog. I have turned those blogs into a book called Hope in the Time of Chemo. You can purchase the book here.
I have an MFA from the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and a B.A. from the College of Charleston, where I received a Young Alumnus Award for my contribution to the field of theatre. After spending ten years performing in New York City, I moved back down south. I currently live in Greenville, SC and am on the faculty of the Fine Arts Center and Furman University. I recently married the one and only Jaimie Malphrus, who allows me to scratch her back on a nightly basis.
Thanks again for checking out my site. Please feel free to drop me a line, read a blog, buy a book, and come see a show!
***David Lee Nelson passed away on 9/24/2020. He is desperately missed and still a very active presence in all of his loved one's lives. His work is still available, as is his blog (continued by his wife, Jaimie).***
Writing blogs, creating shows, this all takes time. And time, as they say, is money.
Patreon is a website that allows you to contribute to my work on a monthly basis. You can choose your own level, anywhere from $10 a month to a $100. Being a Patreon has perks! You can get free tickets to certain shows, a copy of my book. Plus you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you are allowing art to happen. What could be better than that?
