There’s a section in my play, Stages:

The outpouring of support was unbelievable. People were sending me thoughts and prayers and vibes. Telling me if I needed anything not to hesitate to ask. I wanted to take them up on it but for totally random things:

“Hey could I get a ride?”

“To chemo??”

“No, to the movies.”

It was unbelievable the things people were offering. Their houses for vacation. The services of their parents.

Not that people aren’t not incredible now. No one’s like, “Two years in? Go screw yourself.” But that initial wave was support was a humbling experience. It was inspiring to know I wasn’t facing this alone.

One of the best things to come out of this experience has been this blog. It started as a suggestion by my stand up friend, Nick Cobb. He asked me how a joke I had written about this dis-ease was going, and I told him that chemo was making going to the comedy clubs slightly tricky. He said it was a shame that all that material I was writing was just sitting there. That’s when he said, “You should start a blog or something.”

Just like that, this little corner of the internet was born.

The blog has been the inspiration for my play, Stages. It was the source material for my book that will be coming out at the end of this year. More than that, it’s been a way to connect with people from all over the country.

I still get emails from people, asking what they can do. I assure them that reading and sharing is enough. Some people still want to do more. I’ve gotten packages of books, checks, cards. Someone sent me a tote bag which I adore.

I was telling all of this to my therapist a couple of weeks ago, and he suggested that I start a Patreon. I told him I didn’t want to take any more prescriptions, to which he replied, your session is over.

What is Patreon? It’s a website that connects content creators with their audiences, and allows said audience to make monthly contributions to the artist.

So I set one up. Here’s the link:

There are various levels, from $10 a month all the way up to $100 if you feel like a baller. Some come with little bonuses- like comp tickets and a special thanks in my upcoming book.

If you want to take part that’s amazing! If not, that's amazing too. Thank you so much for reading and sharing. This blog helps me make sense of this world, and I appreciate everyone who comes on this daily journey with me.

Have a great Monday! See you tomorrow.
