To Vitamin C or not to Vitamin C
“There are more things in heaven and heart than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” -Hamlet
I’m thinking about adding Vitamin C infusions into my healing mix activities.
Two of my oncologists think it’s ridiculous. One of them thinks it doesn’t do harm, so why not? Jaimie is cautious, but thinks I should do it if I want to.
And me, I’m not totally sure what to do.
These Vitamin C infusions aren’t just about eating some extra oranges. These are incredibly high does given right to the blood stream. It’s like mainlining 2500 lemons. The theory is that at those levels it acts as becomes an anti-cancer agent, killing bad cells while leaving others alone.
Does it work?
I’ve been doing my research, but that in and of itself is a challenge. Reading abstracts and following all the chemical names. First off- it’s hard to understand and secondly- it’s super boring! Like the most boring shit I’ve ever read. Do you have any idea how boring something’s got to be when it involves a disease I actually have.
From what I can tell, the general scientific view is that there hasn’t been enough research. I have some anecdotal stories of people who said it helped them. At the very least it gave them energy and helped with the side effects. Also, there isn’t a huge vitamin C lobby out there funding all these tests so the results are inconclusive.
It’s pricey. That’s the other thing. The suggestion is one to two infusions a week at about $100-$200 a pop out of pocket. Which I can do, just not sure how long.
How long are we supposed to wait before all the results are in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? People don’t have that much time to wait. And if the only risk is the the money, that’s one resource I can get back. We do the best we can with the information we have in front of us. I think that’s what life is. I think that’s being an adult is.
All I’m saying is that if you see me over the weekend staring at on orange like Hamlet looked at Yorick’s skull, you’ll know why.
