Friends for Life

One of the great blessings of my life has been my friendships. It's probably a side effect of not having any children, but it's something I am thankful for. Something I don't take for granted. And it's something I cultivate. At least try and cultivate. The longer life goes on (and if I am an expert in anything it is wanting life to go on for as long as possible) these friendships become more and more important to me.

One of the friendships is to a wonderful woman named Amy Finkelstein. She was my girlfriend in high school and freshman year of college. We bonded over many things, but like most relationships in my life, art has been at the center of it.

And Amy is an incredible artist.

Originally an actress, and a fine one at that, we met in the theatre department at Wade Hampton High School. Her senior year of high school she transferred to the Fine Arts Center to study photography. She completed her studies at Appalachian State University and then got her M.F.A from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and came out a bona fide bad ass artist.

And an even better person.

We have gotten closer during my time with the C word, and she has been determined to find a way to be involved in addition to her friendship. And since our relationship is steeped in our individual artistic pursuits, she figured why not start there.

So last week, she launched a website selling her work with 85% of the proceeds going to me and and other 15% going to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The 15% going to SPLC was especially meaningful to me, considering they are based out of Montgomery, AL, the place I spent two years and completed my Master's of Fine Arts.

Her work is one of a kind and is selling like CRAZY! I am doing an E-blast now because these photographs she is selling for me are moving quickly, and if you want to get one or two, I would not wait too long.

Have fun shopping and browsing. And if you happen to purchase a photograph, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
